Duration – 2 hours 36 minutes
Unitezz Rating - ★★
‘Heropanti’ is the story of two conflicting protagonists Dimpy (
Kriti Sanon) and Bablu ( Tiger Shroff). Their battles with society and
their coming of age love story. It is a quintessential Bollywood
romance, where lovers have to fight angry uncles and dominating fathers
who give love a bad name, to win over their ladylove. Tiger Shroff roars
and flexes his muscles in ‘Heropanti’. He’s earnest in his debut and
his lady love in the movie Kriti Sanon is surprisingly quite a show
stealer in a film that is below mediocre.
The story is set in Jattland where the local don Chaudhary (Prakash Raj) is getting his elder daughter Renu (Sandeepa Dhar)married. On the night of the wedding Renu elopes with her boyfriend Rakesh,The Chaudhry’s goons search for her across the village. And thus pick up Rakesh’s friends. One of the friends includes Bablu (Shroff), an ultra muscular head and shoulders model who develops the hots for the goon’s other daughter (Sanon). The lovers – boy and girl – are both good-looking, and the camera favours them over the rest of the cast .
The movie is a take off on ‘Maine Pyar Kiya’ and ‘Dilwale Dulhaniya
le Jayenge’ . Sabbir’s narrative is linear, and painfully
predictable.Tiger is earnest in his debut, he’s an odd mix of Bollywood
stars Salman and Hrithik Roshan. His on-screen partner Kriti Sanon bears
an uncanny resemblance to Alia Bhatt.
Prakash Raj is back in his element, It was great to see Raj’s usual
bad guy act have some shades of grey this time around as he plays a man
torn between the brutal traditions of his people and his undying love
for his daughter. Some of his emotional scenes are truly funny – he
bawls loudly on the road with a wine bottle, does the shimmy on a park
bench, exaggerates pain by heaving his chest and even delicately places
Shroff’s hand on his thigh. So when he asks Shroff ‘Tum me aisa kya hai
jo meri beti ko dikhta hai aur mujhe nahi dikhta’, a thunderstorm of
laughter erupts in the theatre.
The script is quite flimsy ,with some of the musical scores that are foot tapping. The debutants have done their best but still something is missing.
Final Heropanti Review: Watch the movie for Tiger Shroff’s stunts and Kriti Sanon’s looks.
