Himesh Reshammiya is back with a bang, and this time to explore the dark side of Bollywood in the 60′s when stardom had a different definition. The plot of his movie ‘X’Pose’ is set in the swinging sixties’ (60s). Larger-than- life superstars, sensual sins, charisma galore and exciting extra-marital affairs. A tough task to be pulled off, but director Anant Mahadevan has stuck to a tight script.
Ravi Kumar (Himesh) playing an angry ex- cop turned South actor who delivers one liners like - “Main joh bol deta hoon, wohi script ban jaata hai!”. He’s signed up by Bollywood director Subbu Prasad (Ananth) for a film titled ‘Ujjwal Nirmal Sheetal’ , opposite sexy siren Zara, who tries to seduce him out of his puritanical vows.
Ravi, however, is madly in love with newbie Chandni (Zoya), who’s being launched in ‘Reena Mera Naam’ and is Zara’s arch rival . There’s also music composer KD (YoYo) – with a Pran-like-latt, who ‘rips’ rap music, and a host of cagey characters to add intrigue to this conspiracy. The Mystery starts with Zoya’s murder at an after awards party. “Who’s the suspect?” A whole maze of who could be the one behind her death.
Himesh character looks believable. In terms of acting, he delivers all his dialogues, especially the one-liners, with a lot of conviction. He slips well into his character, with quirkiness and confidence. Honey Singh, playing the role of K.D. (Kenny Damania), has correct comic timing but purely loses out on the character’s nuances. One can easily identify him as Yo Yo than the character he is playing who also has a ‘cool dude’ accent.
Irrfan Khan, who plays Alec D’Costa (a black ticket seller), is the anchor of the film. He opens the film introducing the characters and through his narration takes the story ahead with his own unique dialogue delivery.
Sonali is stunning and impressive, Zoya makes a pretty picture and Yo Yo is best when he’s grooving. Ananth Mahadevan plays Subba Prasad, a big director down south has placed himself in may be more scenes than needed. Bobby Chadha’s (Ashwin Dhar) displays an effortless act of being a cruel filmmaker and holds the film on the other side.
The background music goes well with the intense scenes adding more drama to the plot. Songs like, ‘Dard Dilo Ke’ and ‘Ice Cream Khaungi’ will stay with you even after you walk out from the theaters. The plot,is full of twists towards the end. Truly a good effort.
X’Pose has some good ‘ol masala to keep you entertained.
